I wanted to send this email right away because something AMAZING just happened in my third grade classroom. I am a third grade teacher with 33 years of experience. We practice YOGA every week altogether and my students love it. Today I decided to read your CALM meditation to them as they laid flat on their mats. It was POWERFUL! One of my very busy boys exclaimed at the end, " My Mind Fell ASLEEP!" My heart was full and my eyes filled up when he yelled that. This is why I take the time each week to practice YOGA with all of my students and there may be other Curriculum demands that pile up but I firmly believe we must take care of their SEL health and teach them all of these most valuable tools. - Laura B.
Since introducing these yoga resources to the class, they are eager to do yoga and incorporate breathing since it helps them to be calmer. They are able to sit for longer and are more regulated after doing yoga. Parents have noticed, too. One parent in particular reported that her child now reminds her to take a deep breath every time she gets mad or upset. - Bakula P.
Helping students to acknowledge, name, and regulate their emotions has been our focus this week. The Pause Breath is a simple, easy to do technique that students can take on by themselves. Students can use this as a whole class, to begin a small group, at their individual work, and even in our regulation stations! - May M.
The breathing exercise poster is an awesome tool that I like to show during the beginning of my classes. I try to always remind the kids that yoga is a personal practice and they get to decide what will serve their minds and bodies best in that moment. This poster is a great tool for that. The poster and its illustrations seem to help the kids become familiar with the different breathing techniques. - Amy Foster
