Pretend play is important for a child’s development.
According to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) (Yogmin, et al, 2018):
Play is an activity that is intrinsically motivated, entails active engagement, and results in joyful discovery. Play is voluntary and often has no extrinsic goals; it is fun and often spontaneous.
And when it comes to play, imaginative play can have positive and widespread impact on children. Research has shown that imaginative play:
lowers anxiety and decreases stress
enhances brain structure and function
promotes the process of learning
improves focus and concentration
improves academic skills
decreases disruptive behaviors
increases understanding of literature
increases emotional competence
allows for the practice of negotiation and sharing skills
boosts the expression and exploration of feelings
promotes safe, stable, and nurturing relationships
exercises logical reasoning skills
Combining pretend play with the benefits of yoga is a wonderful recipe for helping raise healthy, happy, and well-balanced children!
