This was a perfect book to use in the Yoga classes I teach to the 2nd grade. They loved the colorful illustrations and had fun moving through all the yoga poses in the book. However, the best part of the book, in my opinion, was the powerful message: Stay true to who you are and good will follow. I am happy to say that most of the students were able to point out when Anna's classmates were "mean" to her, saying not so nice things behind her back. I also shared this book with a 4th grade student who is hearing impaired and wears two hearing aides, just like Anna. When he made the connection between himself and Anna, his expression was priceless. Overall, the yoga poses were enough for these students to stay engaged to the story and be challenged physically. Thank you for this gift of a book.
A tender, thoughtful, and colorful reflection not only on how a child finds refuge in yoga --- but how children come to appreciate and respect each other. My son and I so enjoy reading this together.
Here's a picture of one of my classes featuring the book Anna and her Rainbow-Colored Yoga Mats.
Anna and her Rainbow-Colored Yoga Mats is for young and old alike! Your kids will love traveling with Anna through a safari desert, the pyramids of the desert, through the waters of the world’s oceans – and more! It’s a beautifully told story with beautiful watercolor-like illustrations. Anna and her rainbow-colored yoga mats teach a story of acceptance, friendship, and being happy with yourself – being yourself – in your own space. Lisa SquishableBaby.com
I love how this book isn't just about children practicing yoga - the message is about much more... it also celebrates diversity. I love how Anna uses her imagination and escapes to her different worlds . The poses are clearly illustrated and explained. I tried this book out with my sons, a 9 year old and a 4 year old. We all enjoyed it together!
