This 58-page paperback book is for teachers, parents, kids yoga teachers, caregivers, and health practitioners looking for simple, convenient ways to add yoga into their curriculum, classes, or home life. Age group: Toddlers to Early Primary, ages 3 to 8.
What a wonderful tool! This ebook has a theme for each month, with yoga poses, breathing exercises, and a suggested corresponding storybook by Giselle. The yoga poses and breathwork each include an illustration and detailed instructions. As a kids yoga teacher, I will use it as inspiration for lesson planning throughout the year. Educators will find it an invaluable resource for integrating yoga into their classrooms. Parents will have fun using it each month with their kids. Another great product from Kids Yoga Stories!
This is an incredibly valuable resource. I can imagine following the themes exactly as outlined in the book, or using them as a foundation to build upon for a longer class. The book is well organized and the instructions are clear. I teach yoga to kids in a residential behavioral health treatment program, so structure and simplicity are key. Focusing on one pose, but wrapping it up in a short 3-pose sequence provides both. The breathing exercises with each theme are perhaps the most important element. I often work a couple of breathing exercises into my classes - one energizing and one calming - to show the kids how breath can help control their energy. This will be a go-to resource for my kids' yoga library.
As a yoga teacher for children myself, I find this resource full of inspiration and I love how the months are themed, even though I am in the southern hemisphere it is very easy to swap them around. I will find the breathing ideas useful as I often do the same old thing and now I have 12 options. It is great how the monthly themes can be used with a story book. Children love to have visuals. thanks for another great resource at a very affordable price.
I just reviewed the "Monthly Kids Yoga Themes" book and think it's a wonderful resource for anyone who works with or teaches yoga. You do need to have a background in yoga, but do not have to be a yoga teacher or children's yoga teacher to make use of the ideas. The section each month on breathing techniques can be used at any time during the year. Children need to have breathing strategies in their "tool box" to use any time they need to calm down, focus, or have some extra energy. Teachers of children of all ages can make use of these techniques. Actually, as adults, we need to know how to use these strategies as well. The yoga flows are short and descriptions are excellent for any adults working with children. Young children can use these flows and older children can combine these flows into multistep yoga flows. I like the way yoga poses are "renamed" based on the monthly theme. Again, teachers can use these same strategies with any monthly theme. They can integrate them with curriculum themes and link with yoga books or other children's literature. Great resource for children's yoga teachers, preschool teachers, classroom teachers, and parents. *****
